Design Guidelines for Ordering Press Books in LabPrints

When ordering Press Books in LabPrints, you cannot mix book sizes or other products in the order.

Create Pages in Composite Designer

1. In the Templates, choose the Book Page template for the size of book you are going to order.
2. For the first page, when prompted, name the composite 001. DO NOT CHANGE THE SIZE OF THE COMPOSITE. This size includes the bleed needed for the book.
3. Once you are finished designing the page, go to File - Save Composite or Ctrl+S.
4. Create a new composite for each page of the book, naming the composite by the page number, i.e. 002, 003, 004, etc. (If you do not use three digits, the pages will be out of sequence.) Remember, odd numbered pages are on the right, even numbered pages are on the left.
   Note: If a page consists of only one image, it still needs to be placed in a template with the correct page number for a name.
5. If you wish to create a spread, when you create the composite, name it for the even number page. After you are finished creating the composite, go to File - Save Composite. Then go to File - Save Composite As, and name for the odd number page.
6. Finish designing for all the pages in your book. Remember, you must order a minimum of 20 pages, with a maximum of 80 pages (each side of the paper is a page).
7. If you choose to order a Photo Cover or Dust Jacket, use the templates provided.

Note: Pages are set up to include a 1/8" bleed on all 4 sides of the layout. We recommend putting guide lines 1/4" from each edge, to mark each "Safe Line" for important information.

Order Pages in Edit/Order

1. Once you have finished designing your pages, close the Composite Designer, and click on the Edit/Order tab.
2. Click the drop down menu that says "Standard Products" and select the size of book you are going to order. (This needs to match the size you selected when creating your pages in Composite Designer.) Do not order other book sizes or products in this order.
3. Select the 001.comp, and order the number of pages you need, using the "Book Page" line item. Make sure to order the same number for each page.
4. If you created spreads, choose the even number .comp file, slide the crop all the way to the left and order. Then choose the odd number .comp file, slide the crop all the way to the right, and order. DO NOT ORDER BOTH PAGES FROM THE SAME .COMP FILE.
5. After you finish ordering all the book pages, order the cover of your choice. Note: If you order a non-photo cover, just order from the last page. The image will not be ordered.
6. If you choose, order a metallic dust jacket. (Remember, you must order a cover as well.)
